Dr. Aditya Abhyankar received the BE degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Pune University in 2001. He received MS and Ph.D. degrees from Clarkson University, New York, USA in 2003 and 2006 respectively. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Clarkson University in the academic year 2006-07. He worked as a consultant for Biometrics LLC, West Virginia, USA in 2007. Currently he is Dean, Faculty of Technology, University of Pune and Professor, Department of Technology, University of Pune and Research Associate at Clarkson University. He is on lien from his duties as Professor at Computer Engineering Department of Vishvakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT), Pune
and Dean of R&D and Director of CERD (Center for Excellence in Research and Development) at VIIT, Pune. He is also associated as Adjunct Professor with Government College of Engineering, Pune (COEP). He is an approved Ph.D. guide of University of Pune and is guiding students at multiple research institutes. He has also obtained an MBA degree with specialization in Finance in 2013 and MA degree in Sanskrit with specialization in Vedant in 2012. He is involved in consultancy with number of private industries. His research interests include signal and image processing, pattern recognition, wavelet analysis, biometric systems and bioinformatics, machine learning, computer vision, data analytics etc.
He has in his name 8 US and 12 Indian patents and has received national and international awards.
Title of Talk 1: Research—Why, How and When?
Synopsis: Research has become buzzword in India, however it is important to understand the nitty-gritty of it. Research is more of a journey and not destination and this journey is full of multiple facets and interesting turns. The talk gives details of why one should do research, what is takes to carry out quality research and how to convert research into tangible outcomes like journal articles, patents, technology transfers etc. The talk also discussed interesting case studies and gives insight into tools useful for researchers.
Title of Talk 2: Towards Kernel Development in Machine Learning
Synopsis: Machine learning has started taking pivotal role as machines have started becoming smart, semi-smart and intelligent. Many of the automation processes, most of the big data handling approaches need intelligent framework. The talk gives details about the global trends in machine learning and the heart of the subject matter which is developing "kernels". The talk also gives details about what is kernel, what makes is adaptive and how it is capable of solving interesting real life problems with engineered solution.
Title of Talk 3: Wavelets—Trends and Tides
Synopsis: Wavelet Transform has changed the dimension of signal and image processing based systems to a greater extent. If last 100 years were the years of Fourier transform, coming 100 years are going to be years of Wavelets Transform. The talk gives lucid explanation of Wavelet Transform, making the underlying Mathematics easy to understand. The talk also gives when Wavelets should be used and how to make the implementation effective. The talk presents interesting applications of wavelets transform along with what is beyond wavelets.
