Short CV:

Ravi Kothari is the Chief Data Scientist of Icertis, where he is involved in the use of machine learning, natural language processing and statistical analysis to extract actionable insights from contracts and other business documents. Prior to Icertis, Kothari was an academician for more than a decade and with IBM Research for about 15 years. He was the first IBM Distinguished Engineer from India in the history of IBM and had multiple responsibilities over the years including that of Chief Scientist. He also led IBM’s Research Lab in New Delhi for a number of years. He has published more than 100 papers in prestigious journals and conferences and holds about 40 US patents. Kothari has been an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and Pattern Analysis and Application (Springer), and was the General Co-chair of the ACM International Conference on Distributed and Event‐Based Systems (DEBS). He has played important roles in multiple other academic conferences, and serves on the advisory committee of multiple academic institutions. Kothari is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. .

Title of Talk 1: Generative Models
Synopsis: The availability of large volumes of data and the (re)discovery of generative models have ushered in a new class of applications. In this widely accessible talk, we provide an overview of generative models and their application to rational drug design and other areas of biology.

Title of Talk 2: Graph Neural Networks
Synopsis: Deep learning has shown spectacular results at tasks where the data is generated from Euclidean domains (e.g., images). In many cases, data is generated from non-Euclidean domains. In this talk we discuss generalizations of deep learning (geometric deep learning) and show how it allows for learning from data originating from non-Euclidean domains. We conclude with a glimpse into promising future research directions.
