ACM India Summer Schools 2020

The summer schools are coming! We are pleased to announce "ACM India Summer Schools 2020". These schools offer self-motivated students in-depth knowledge and exposure to research in advanced technology areas. Each school is almost like a semester course, covers academic and applied research, and is taught by the best-in-class faculty from academia as well as industry. Each day typically comprises lectures as well as tutorial sessions with hands-on problem solving experience.

These schools are targeted at students in the pre-final year of Bachelor's program or higher, unless marked otherwise in the school’s website. Like previous years, we again have one school exclusively for women students.

Application deadline: important note regarding COVID-19: With the entire country in lockdown until 15 April and all of us focused on fighting COVID-19, one of the biggest threats to humankind, any other deadlines are hardly important right now. This includes the original deadline of 27 March for Summer School applications. So we are keeping the applications open until 17 April while we decide the next course of action, but waiving the application fee of Rs200+GST right away. We will also refund the fee to all applicants who have paid while submitting their applications so far. Also note that the inevitable delays anticipated in the academic calendars have made it logistically impossible to organize two of the schools, "Fairness, Accountability and Transparency in AI" and "Computer Architecture and Operating Systems". We may be able to offer them in winter. Also note that one school, "Programming Language Analysis and Optimization", has been pushed to July. Details in the table below. Those who have applied to those schools may apply again for remaining schools if they wish. While we are continuing with the plans for 4 schools, the schools will only be held if it is completely safe to do so.

Here are the Summer Schools planned. More details about each school available via respective school’s website below.

  • participation in programming or other contests
  • previous internship or research experience
  • any demonstrated self-study experience

Although being an ACM Student Member is not a requirement for applying to these schools, we encourage the applicants to join ACM, the world's largest educational and scientific computing society, aimed at advancing computing as a science and a profession.
